Title: Promise RAID
Post by: Mike Waymouth on November 18, 2001, 09:31:32 PM
I am trying to impliment a Promist FAST Track 100 hardware RAID 1 system.
I have used the "dd" option when installing Mitel 5 onto a matched pair of new Seagate IDE drives and loaded the drivers from Promise Web site. I have also read the material on http://dukeofurl.dhs.org/reviews/misc/promisehowto/

Mitel accepts the driver disk OK but will not complete the install process as it cant find any  hard drive(s).

Has anyone out there succeded with this one?
thanks mike

This works with 4.1.? but not with 5.?.  The problem is that promise doesn't have drivers for the 2.2.19-7.0.8 kernel but does for the 2.2.16-22 kernel.  It accepts the driver disk but cant find an appropriate driver that is why it can't find any drives.

Thanks for the information Shad.  Saved me a lot more wasted time.  How did you find this out and do you know what the liklehood is of drivers being available soon?

This problem does not just affect Promise RAID cards. I have the same problem with Highpoint and Adaptec 1200A (also based on Highpoint) RAID cards. Unfortunately, Highpoint has indicated that they have no plans to release the source files for us to compile a compatible driver. Most vendors have 2.2.16 and the "official" RH 7.1 kernel 2.4.x versions of the drivers but NOT the 2.2.19 that SME is using. This really stuffs it up for us unfortunately.

No low cost hardware RAID solution for these installations (or move back to ESSG 4.1.2)
