Title: Samba with LDAP back-end
Post by: Alex Schaft on August 31, 2005, 10:25:27 AM
Hi,

With SME already running LDAP, how difficult would it be to set up samba authenticating against LDAP?

I'm looking at setting up a BDC for my network.

Currently running samba 3.0.7 on my SME PDC

Please see the devinfo and smeserver.sourceforge.net devel mailing list archives for quite a bit of discussion of this subject.

The LDAP directory currently doesn't have any password records, and isn't configured with the schema to contain them. There would be a moderate amount of work on adding code to the e-smith-ldap RPM to support password records stored in LDAP, but nobody has yet stepped up to the plate to make those changes. If you're interested, I suggest you join the mailing lists and discuss there.

I notice that someone has made a pretty good start here:
