Title: SME 5.0 to share Maximizer data
Post by: Grant on November 19, 2001, 05:32:26 PM
Hi there,

I have recently set up SME server 5.0 on a small peer-to-peer network just as a file server.  It is not configured for internet access and is used solely for file sharing and document storage.

We use a CRM product called Maximizer which runs off the Pervasive WorkGroup SQL engine.  I would like to store a shared DB (4 users) on the SME server but don't know what settings to change so that there can be muli-user access.  Currently one person can sign in from any PC but when another person goes in they get problems.

Can anyone help?

Grant Anderson.

Grant, are your users using v5 or v6 of Maximizer? I'm going to have to migrate a client from v5 to v6 and understand that v6 uses the Pervasive engine so I'm also interested in anyone's feedback on this topic.

Please let me know if you make any progress (I likewise).

Thanks, for the help.

I now have this issue resolved - Aaron, It's Max 6 running on the PCs with the Pervasive SQL engine.

...and what was the answer? I'd like to know, I have a similar problem with a different program sharing a Pervasive SQL DB. Love to know how you fixed it!

Hi Dan,

OK, the problem wasn't really with the server.  The issue in the end turned out to be one of the PCs was running an earlier version of Maximizer.

This wasn't an issue when the data was stored on a Windows PC but it did manage to screw things up when it was moved to Linux.

I don't have Pervasive SQL on the file server (too expensive!), the data is stored there and the gateway PC that manages access is a Win98 PC on the network.  This works fine, access to the data is fast and reliable.

I don't really know that much Linux but I hope this helps.
