Title: SME 6.0 - dnscache-0.3.0 upgrade. I broke it. Not resolving
Post by: bugme on September 02, 2005, 01:46:00 AM
Hello,

Trying to solve a problem with web site access, as discussed in topic
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=27117.0

found that SME 6.0 was running dnscache-0.2.0 so i updated to 0.3.0 and now broken.

Can ping and surf ip addresses, but hostnames are not resolving or pinging... :(

Now instead of the whole office not being able to access 3 problematic sites (www.nissan-usa.com being one of them), we cannot access ANY site!

I am currently posting via a netgear router connection.

upgrade procedure wrong?
version wrong?
need to reset cache or other setting?

i did a forum search for 'dnscache' but nothing relevant that i can see in terms of checking, fixing, and getting dns to resolve again.

Help!

Thanks.

What exactly did you do when you upgraded? Have you done either:

/etc/e-smith/events/actions/dnscache-conf

or:

/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

since you upgraded the package?

What do the most recent messages in the dnscache/current logfile say?

Trying to solve a problem with web site access ...

Please report the site access problem in the Bug tracker at contribs.org (follow link at the left), and followup there with your attempted workaround. That will help the 6.x maintenance team to make sure that there is a bug fix to the original problem, and a smooth upgrade path for all version 6.x users.
