I have just installed SME server on its own and plan to use it as a web, mail and file server for my small network at home.
I have set the server name and workgroup for the domain and also activated SME to act as a domain controller.
However, when I try to set up my xp machine as a member of the domain, I get the message that windows is unable to contact domain controller.
Any help, links or suggestions are more than welcome.

Not to steal Ray's thunder :-), but did you try searching the site. This issue has come up more than once. Go to /home/e-smith/files/server-resources/regedit and copy the winxplogon.reg file, then run it on your xp pc's and then you should be able to join your domain.
In case you don't know how to get the file from your server to your pc, here it is.
[root@test regedit]# more winxplogon.reg
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters]
"RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000

I do something wrong. I have SME running as domain controller. Received new machines (Windows XP Professional) and applied the patch: winxplogon.reg
But it doesn't work for me. I get error message No domain controller found when I try as admin, and Invalid password as root.
I did search the forum for useful tips but haven't found the one that fix my problem.
Any advice is welcome,
Bries

When trying to add a computer to the domain you need to use the admin user (which has the same password as the root user).

Hi Cactus, Thanks for reply.
That's what I did and what I know, but it doesn't work. When I try to do it as admin it says doesn't find the domain controller, when I try it as root it says invalid password.
