Title: not clear on the issue of "YUM" on SME 7 b2.
Post by: idyll on September 10, 2005, 11:37:36 PM
I was able to install Gallery2 onto SME7B2 without a hitch. I then used YUM to add ImageMagick so images could be rendered. I read this little trick in another thread after searching for ImageMagick. I believe it was posted by "gordonr".

How does one get other packages into this process?

I would like to add GD and especially NetPBM to the installation, as each is slightly better than the other in certain areas. Neither resolved when I used the "yum install xxxx" routine. ffmpeg would also be welcome but requires an insane number of dependencies.

Pointers?

thanks

regards,
patrick

Capitalization is important.  'yum install gd' would work, but 'yum install GD' won't.  But you sometime s need capitals (just to confuse us all of course) 'yum install imagemagick' won't work, but 'yum install ImageMagick' will :-P

Next time try 'yum search image*' for example (to list any with image in the name or description) if what you expect to work doesn't.

Thanks for the quick pointers Greg.

My SME7 B2 install of Gallery2 is solid now.

I was able to install netpbm and gd without any issue. The search suggestion is especially useful as I found netpbm to be all lower case.

Digression:  is it just me or is contribs.org just getting hammered today? Really sluggish.

thank you again.
