Title: Joining SME domain from xp pro machine - which domain
Post by: tore on September 13, 2005, 08:30:42 PM
I have installed SME and would like to add my xp machine to the domain. Which domain is the controller looking for in SME. Is it domainname that is set by the domainname command, server name or what???

Hi there,

The domain you are looking for is in fact the Workgroup you set in the server manager.

Configuration > Workgroup > Windows Workgroup

If set as a domain controller, this will be the domain you will attach to. Be sure to run the reg patch for XP before connecting. Can be found at http://your-server-ip/server-resources/regedit/

Hope this helps,

Arthur

That's a good help.  I have tried this, and it works, but when I run the tail -f /var/log/messages on the the SME Server, nothing comes up as I try to log in to the domain.  Is that normal. Should there not be records of me joining the domain, as well as a record of when I later try to log in to the domain? I do get a response in /var/log/messages when I log on and of webmail.

Hope this makes sense

Rgds

Glad it worked for you. Not sure if the domain logons are recorded though, maybe someone else can comment?
