Hi Everyone,
I have an annoying problem with a Compaq Proliant ML350G3 server, when i install SME Server on to it the fan control doesn't work at all, (that means full speed on all the fans) wich is pretty loud on that model.
Have anyone of you guys tried installing the
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21063.html
Or similar?
It says that it should run redhat 7.3 but is there even an remote chance that it will run on SME server 6.0.1

I took the coward way out: I installed a new fan and a Zalman fanmate. The original fan drove me crazy.

That is one way to solve the problem, but i would still prefer the software solution, although the hardware control way is proberly what i will use in the end.

The hpasm rpm for rh enterprise linux 2.1 still works OK on sme 7b5, so will probably work on version 6. SME uses run level 7, and the rpm automatically sets it up for run level 5, so you will have to manually copy the link from /etc/rc5.d to rc7.d, or use a custom template.

Just for the record :-)
I just installed the rhel21 version on SME7rc1 and made the symlinks wich Barry suggested (Thanks Barry!) and all is working very well... Thanks again!

Hi again.
I have tried to install the rpm that barryf suggested, the fans still doesn't slow down. It seems that there is missing some dependencies.
hplog -f
hplog: /lib/libc.so.6: version GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by hplog)
or
hpuid -e
hpuid: WARNING: Cannot open /dev/cpqhealth/cdt.
The casm driver is not operating correctly!
hpuid: Warning - Not able to initialize
Looks like the services is not running properly:
/etc/init.d/hpasm status
hpasmd is stopped...

Seems that you don't have version 2.3 of the glibc libraries or that there is some problem, try and see which version you have:
rpm -qa | grep glibc
What SMEServer version are you running on?
edit: Just noted you are running 6.0, maybe you should upgrade to 7.0 as soon as it is stable.
As my SMEServer7.0rc1 shows the following:
glibc-2.3.4-2.13
glibc-common-2.3.4-2.13
Maybe you need to install the glibc-devel as well.

Hi Cactus,
Here is the output from the rpm -qa | grep glipc:
rpm -qa | grep glibc
glibc-common-2.2.5-43
glibc-2.2.5-43
You where right, but if i update this could it break something else ?.

Troels:
I don't know if you looked on HP's web site in downloads for BIOS updates to fix the problem. We service several HP LH and Compaq ML350 there was an update for the BIOS that was needed for the Built in Raid 5 to work properly. The raid worked but was squirrelly. The Fans seem to be working fine. The download was hard to find.
I'm not sure if this will help but its worth a try.
