Title: Ibay, user and group name default lengths in SME7
Post by: kirkf on October 21, 2005, 01:26:53 AM
Hello.  Does anyone else think that it would be nice to change the default settings on the maxIbayNameLength, maxAcctNameLength and maxGroupNameLength db entries to allow values longer than 12 characters out of the box?  I realize that this was done to provide compatibility with Windows 9x, and that it can be manually altered, but I wonder whether the majority of users now might benefit more from longer user and group names than from backward compatibility.

Windows 9x is now two versions outdated and well over five years old.

Seems reasonable to me - to the bug tracker please. Just needs a large friendly note that Win 9x and NT4 are best avoided :-)

One thing to consider though, does this effects Mac clients.  I know OS X would be fine, but what about OS 9 & <.

Just something to think about.
