Title: LDAP Authentication / Ease of Winbind Configuration
Post by: steever on November 13, 2005, 11:51:15 PM
I'd like to be able to authenticate Linux workstations off SME and have home directories auto-mounted.  It is kind of possible with NIS and NFS, but Winbind and Pam automount or - even better - LDAP authentication with Pam mount would be much more transparent.

I would also like to see something like OpenLDAP integrated into the near future.

That way it provides easy Authentication between servers and web applications.

OpenLDAP has been integrated since very early versions. The LDAP directory, however, is just a user and group list. It does not contain any passwords and cannot be used for authentication.

Man, been a while since I posted.......

I wanted LDAP Authentication, it fits in with nearly every package out there very nicely.

Don't really need it now.

I think there's already a feature request for this in the bugzilla system. And for good reason, too. This is one feature that (if missing) can turn into a showstopper for more-than-one-server installations.
