Title: Max Users?
Post by: steever on November 21, 2005, 01:10:08 PM
Does anyone know if there is a maximum number of users for an SME server, hardware not withstanding?  Is there any limit on the number of logged in samba users?
Thanks

Which SME version? _or in general_

Code: [Select]
2051   ...just insert "maximum user" into that little box called "Search Site" ;-)

I think SAMBA has no real artificial limit to the number of connections. The real limiting factor will be the resources available from your system. The Rule is: The moreusers, the slower it gets! Simple really.

The SME User Guide gives you some guidelines about the sort of system you should have for the number of users you have. I suggest you read it. Section 4, especially 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4.

Thanks for the reply.  I am writing an article about SME Server and I wanted to put in some specs, and the only one I wasn't sure about was max users.  So, 2000 email users?  Anybody had experience with SME Server with a large number of users?  Any issues?

Reinhold, yes, I know about Search, but sometimes it's OK to ask, considering how things change.
