Hi
Can someone tell me if there is a SME server compatible list please ? I’ve been looking on eBay and I’m surprised at the amount of cheap second-hand servers there are.
My dilemma is which one to buy, because you can be sure I’ll buy the only one on ebay the SME wont work on !!!
Here are a few examples taken this morning.
Compaq Proliant 6000 server 2xXEON/ 1GB/ 146.5 GB RAID
Specifications
2x 400MHZ cpu w 1MB l2 Cache
1024 MB ECC RAM
Compaq 3100ES Raid controller
7x 18.2GB SCSI disks
2x 9.1GB SCSI Disks
Redundant parallelable PSU
Network / keyboard / mouse / VGA etc
HP LC2000 Server
Specifications
PIII 733MHz CPU
256MB Ram
6x 9.1 GB SCSI disks
HP Surestore DAT 8
CDROM
kb/mouse/vga/network onboard
There are lots of DELL POWEREDGE servers at good prices.
TIA

Not yet, but any server which is compatible with RHEL 4 should run just fine with SME Server 7 Beta. You are likely to have less success with modern hardware on release 6.

I have found older Compaq hardware to easier to get than HP or Dell mainly due to raid card compatability.
FWIW

that should read easier to get working

We just received an old Compaq 6000 server to evaluate.
640 MB RAM
Over 38 Gigs of storage
Does the underlying OS handle up to 4 CPUs?
I'm having problems with the install of 7pre3. The install drops into a GRUB command line upon reboot after the inital install. I never make it to the configuration part of the install.[/list]
