Title: Strange error messages filling hdd up
Post by: dickmorrell on November 25, 2005, 09:42:54 AM
Strange messages filling up my logfiles slowing down the box to a crawl.

Box is a 6.0.01 install bog standard updated usually runs very quickly (2gb RAM Dual 1.8ghz CPU 2 x 250gb IDE). However since last night I have a 13 mb messages file packed full of:

Nov 22 22:10:36 online root[8287]: Attempt to free non-existent shared string during global destruction.
Nov 22 22:10:36 online root[8285]: Attempt to free non-existent shared string during global destruction.

Nov 22 22:10:38 online root[8287]: Attempt to free unreferenced scalar during global destruction.

Searched Google and this seems to be an issue with Perl. Anyone else seeing this or seen it in the past and shed some light ?

Only thing that has changed is adding Jespers latest AV update script.

So there's your first possible clue. Second clue I can give you is "8285 and 8287".

Dick,
Wonder if you ever found the solution to the this problem. I am getting the same error intermittently on a similar box.  Found a mention of it spamassassin's bugzilla, but no solution. From what I read it appears to be a perl bug. On spamassassin's bug page they suggested using a different version of perl.

Curious if you ever ran it down.

Thanks,

Steve
