I need to get a new server for SME 6.x. New hardware are mostly SATA based leaving 1 IDE which will be impossible for me to put in 2 IDE HDD for software RAID 1 configuration.
Can I get a PCI IDE ATA133 controller card (non-raid, just plain old IDE controller) to solve my problem? Do I need to install any device driver?
Another option is to get a 3ware IDE RAID card and implement hardware Raid.
Hardware I'm getting is the DELL PowerEdge SC430.
This will get me going till SME 7 is out of beta.

kangkc,
ANY plain IDE controller with onboard bios (!)
should work on SME 6 ...
- in practice UDMA100 is good enough (some HDs limit anyway)
- beware of the 120GB and 200GB size limits with older controller bios's
Go for something that's still in support like:
Promise Ultra (100, TX2 133) or in general anything with a chip that may be found on mainboards (ITE etc.).
BTW: I always thought you had only space for 2x3.5" HDs in that case anyway - r u dumping the SATA/SCSI ???

Reinhold

Reinhold,
Thanks. Will start sourcing for the IDE controller.
No, I'm not dumping the SDATA drive, will use it for M$ box and wait for SME 7.0. :-D
