Can SME be loaded on a system that only has usb ports ? Im going to assume it can be loaded but dont want to waste my time it it can be loaded. :hammer:
Just had a system given to me :-D and upon further looking over the system all it has are USB ports. Yea I know I should pop the cd in and try it but cant do that intill I get off in 6 hr and Im a little impatient and want to know know so that by the time I get back home I will know what the machine is going to become . Either a sme test box, load another version of linux on for use as a game server or load windows on it get rid of it.
If not any recommendations on a version of linux to load to use as a game server ? I was thinking of looking at mandiva since I have loaded mandrake before.

beakersloco,
...a SME that has only USB connections ...
clearly won't be of much use as server& gateway
Seriously how does:
- look for pxe or network install with "Search Site"
- attach a CDROM drive on a spare IDE channel
(if needed borrow an PCI card IDE controller for this)
- prepare a bootable USB-Memory stick
sound ? - All 3 options should work ...
(and I still haven't listed all I/O that you have available ;-)

I think you misunderstand or maybe I didnt make my self clear ... the system is one of those tiny gateway pcs that does not have the normal ps2 keyboard and mouse plugins just 5 usb ports which means you have to use a usb keyboard and mouse. Other then that its a normal system just waiting for me to add to network cards. Which at this point I dont seem to have a USB keyboard so Im tail out at the moment.
So the question is can SME server be loaded on a system that does not have the standard ps2 plugs but uses a usb keyboard ? I really need to know before I go buy a usb keyboard because if not then I need to trade PCs with a buddy of mine that could use a pc in a tiny case.

beakersloco,
i) Check what BOOT DEVICES you have available ?!
Then have a look at pxeboot ... !
ii) plugging in a usb "keyboard device" doesn't always give you a "keyboard" ... if you understand what I mean.
You either need a bios setting or just test.
iii) The RH7.3/SME kickstart-install may only be operated via mouse to a certain extent - afaicansee you will need a keyboard at some time if you want a local install.
All in all .. isn't the thing too tiny ?

nope its not too small. Its a 566mzh with a 7 gig hd and 172 mb ram. I just will have to cut down the metal peice on the back of the network cards to fit in the case. Basically all I need to use it for is testing the latest versions of SME. I want to take a look at 6.5 and 7.0 beta. Im using version 5.6 with a bunch of added contribs. Figure its time for me to upgrade to the next version. want to test out some stuff before I reload my "production" system. My production system is a 600 mzh system that is going to get a nice and big 160 gig drive whenever I do the upgrade.
Thanks I will take a look at it. I was trying to not spend any money on a new keyboard(im very poor right now.. 6 month old new baby ..) if I didnt have to. But think that because if its tiny size im going to keep it and use it for something.

FYI it works with a usb keyboard. I initally thought I was going to be SOL but after trying the keyboard in the back 3 ports with nothing happening then it turns out the front 2 are the ones it had to be plugged into.
