Title: Can I change my domain name without any other changes?
Post by: dennisp on December 05, 2005, 07:18:07 PM
SME 6.0 is so stable that I don't have any problems...But I am creating a new website, and wonder If I go into the setup and change Domain name, will it give me any problems? I need my email server changed and main domain...I am going to keep my same DNS address...or can I url forward  the new domain to server and give a virtual domain and be able to see it outside the network?

Thanks in advance to any replies...

Yes - if a name resolves externally to your server IP address, and your server has a virtual domain with that name, you should be good to go.

cd /home/e-smith    /*change to that directory */

ls -al              /* list directory contents */

Or, you could type "mc", click in the left half of the screen, change to "tree view" in the left menu and hit the "F4" key - you'll have an explorer-like interface into the file system. Works especially well with putty or mindterm, as you can resize the window.

You don't need to do all of this to add a virtual-domain, though - just use server-manager.

My domain will be 14 characters long...have to adjust character size limit...apparently root is not where I want to be...it will not recognize home/e-smith as a directory...
