dynamic ip

Hi all.

I'm a consultant working for several customers. I usually need to connect to their computers through internet. Some of them use dynamic ips so I have to call on them to ask for the ip to be able to make the connection ....  :cry:

I wonder if there can be an "automatic" solution for this...  

I don't want to use no-ip or dyndns, as they will always have all my customers IP! I imagine something that sends me the new ip every time it changes

Hi.

I used to have the same problem. I found a program that mails me the dynamic IPs of my customers. This program has to be installed in one Windows PC in the customer network. Works OK. No need to send the IP addresses to a 3rd party, or signup for a lot of domains.

Thank you John! Now I have 3 customers using this program. I always have their IPs in my mail, so I just use vnc or pcanywhere independently, at any time. I'm going to extend this to all the others!   :-D

Shame it's not a free package, I'd still use cron to email me the IP address, as say the machine is not on within the company and you wish to vnc into another machine within the company ? if you use the cron to email on the main server you wouldn't have to worry...

Unless you pay $19 per machine of course  :roll:

Hi byte.  Thank you for your reply.

Most of my clients don't have a Linux environment, as long as I understand I cannot use cron with them.

In this case the cost is not important, as the whole system easily pays for it (even though you cant "test" the program for free).  Also... I think software authors deserve something out of their work... in fact, most of us live out of our work!

Right  :hammer:  I thought you meant your SME Server had the dynamic ip and you forward ports to SME Server?!

How I VNC

PC Work > SME via Portforwarding > Internet > Home PC with VNC

Because my internal machines run same ip all time it's just the SME Server ip I need and therefore use a cronjob
