what do you have to do to get cron to work?
Ive added the entries in the cron "table" by using the -e switch, etc. Do i have to start cron manually? and, are the cron jobs over-written/wiped out after a reboot?
also, where are the system startup scripts? and are they over-written/wiped out too?

ok very well.
how do I add jobs to this? I thought I did but nothing is happening.
All Im doing to test is the "cal" command. im trying to do this thru ssh, im logged in as root and I set up the cron job as root. the output from cal should show up via ssh, right?

Check the admin mailbox. Output should be there.

It's the same as any other cron, except that /etc/crontab is templated.
