Title: SM|E 7.0Beta8 - Virtual Domain Email
Post by: mudra on December 13, 2005, 10:25:04 PM
I am having a problem with setting up a virtual domain and accepting email for it.

I have a dyndns account and a domain name from that, to which I can receive email. However, I have an old dial up account that I still collect mail from, with a a different domain name. All the mail from this account goes to the admin account because it does not recognise the domain.

ie mudra@dyndns.co.uk mail ok
   mudra@oldisp.co.uk goes to the admin.

If I set up a "normal" virtual domain I find that I then cannot access www.oldisp.co.uk as it resolves to my own server !?! (I guess I'm doing something wrong there).

I have read through the contribs and tried to get the dungog-mailblocking rpm but that does not seem to exist (or at least I could not find it) AND on the dungog site it seemed to suggest that this function is now part of the SME 7.0.

I have tried to find it in the server-manager but no luck.

I am sorry if this is real easy and I am being stupid but it has me really stumped.

TIA

Mudra

Go to the hostnames panel and correct the IP address of www.oldisp.co.uk to point to your external web server.

Thanks for the tip.

I have tried to create the virtual domain as I had deleted it before so that I could access the "real" webpage.

Now when I try and recreate the domain I get the following error:-

Error: domain is already in use. Did not create new domain

Is this is a bug in 7.0Beta8 which I should report ? OR is there more to deleting a virtual domain?

Thanks for any help.

You suspect it is a bug, and that's enough reason to report it.

Thank you for the advice, I have created a bug report. Is creating a virtual domain the only way of solving my original email dilemma ?

As you'll see in my followup in the bug tracker, your problems are in a couple of contribs which don't play nice with 7.0.

Just fetch the old mail directly with your mail client.

Thankyou so much for all the help. I have removed the offending contribs, but I am still left with a small problem.

My "domain database" now has entries in it that it shouldn't. Which files do I need to look at to remove the false entries that were not cleaned up, because of the faulty contribs.

Thanks in advance,

Mudra.
