Title: Problem with E-smith and Windows XP
Post by: Tue Hellstern on December 08, 2001, 02:40:02 PM
Hi,
I have just upgraded to E-smith Server V5 on my server and to Windows XP on none of my Windows client. All my other Windows 2000 clients are working very fine, but the one with Windows XP isn’t.
Every time I try to access and save a file on the E-smith server Windows XP creases. What can I do to solve this problem?

Best regards

You may need to make some registry changes to get it working.  All detailed here: http://www.myezserver.com/docs/mitel/samba-upgrade-howto.html

Look down toward the end, for the section that starts: "Windows 2000/XP Registry Settings"

Try to set your XP installation to the fastest mode.
I did that and it works OK.

Hi,

you should disable IP-Encryption on your winxp station. It is somewhere hidden in "local-system-security" settings (do not ask me, i hate this MS-Stuff) and off you go.

Hi Fred,

But thanks

Hi Alexander,
I can’t find "local-system-security" settings, is there anybody there have a clue where to look?
But thanks

The problem is only with Win XP not with Win 2000, and only when I am writhing to the server?

This doesn't seem at all right to me. I've got two or three XP machines working just fine with SME5 - no changes needed to any settings on the XP machine. They can write files to the smaba server shares no problem. This was all right "out of the box".
As someone pointed out you can follow Darrell's How To..., but that is if you are setting up SME5/Samba as a PDC. Is that what you are doing?
Copying a file shouldn't crash your machine. I might be missing something because I'm pretty new to XP. Could this be hardware related?

Sorry not a lot of help, but trying to save you some time.

Hi Arkman,
I am not trying to use SME5 as PDC.
I have tried to install XP ones more, with the same result.
The XP machine can se and copy from the SME5 server without any problems, but when I trye to with to the server the XP machine crash.
There are no problems with my Win 2000 machines?

I am getting a “little” mad on XP :-(
But I need the machine!!!

Again:

No known problem with SME5/XP!

I am running 3 XP WS along with others on a SME Server fine.

Disable IP-Security-Encryption-Somewhat in the local security settings (Start-Panel at bottom).

What means "XP crashes"? What exactly happens?

Did you try another PC, to check hardware problems?

Hi Alex,
It’s good to here that there are no problems with the server.

>What means "XP crashes"? What exactly happens?
When I try to writhe to the server, I get a blue screen for a second and then the pc reboots

>Did you try another PC, to check hardware problems?
No not yet
