Title: How to configure SMTP authentication on SME 6.01
Post by: sysadmin on January 03, 2006, 04:24:56 PM
Could anyone help me to configure my SME server to provide SMTP authentication for users, so that they can send emails to addresses outside a domain? Using email clients won't allow us to send and receive an error about the rcpthosts file. Ideas or help?

Not sure what client your using but under Server info, check "My server requires authentication"
Also check "use same setting as incoming server"

Good luck

SMTP AUTH is not part of 6.0, but it is part of 7.0beta9, which is very stable though still a beta.

A "sysadmin" should be capable of doing his own searching in these forums, but maybe you're a manager ...

What I needed was to install the SMTP Auth module via the link you posted. Then I configured all mail to route through SSL and it works like a champ.

Thanks for your help!
