is there a way for there to be more than one administrator?

I don't think so... BUT
There are a contrib who allow you to delegate some options of SME administration to other users.

Search for it here on this forums as "delegate"

To be a little more precise, your after the dungog user-panel.

It will alow you to login to your own customized user panel. You customize what options depending on who the user is.
