Title: Development / Production System
Post by: dgreathouse on January 11, 2006, 07:59:55 PM
All....
<StupidQuestion>
I have a 6.01-1 system running (Server+gateway) with some mods...  no problems at all, love the system....  It is running on a P3 500 w/200MB ram...
Running several low-volume websites, netjuke, FP2000 ext. etc

Works great!

I want a development system that I can "play" with.  I have a "spare" P2 450 w 128MB ram, lying around.. It will probably do what I want..  My question is how do I connect it to my network and have the ability to sometimes delegate the development server as "primary"... Serve up web pages, run hylafax, test out the beta sme releases, etc...  Just for testing purposes, so I don't screw up my production system.

I would like the new server to co-reside on the network with the production server....  how do I set it up? Server only?

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Server only mode inside your LAN is the most appropriate way. You will need to specify your new test domains in "host names and  addresses" of your main SME/DHCP for proper name resolution or use "hosts" file on your workstation for testing.
Once you happy with your new website design on the development server, you can copy it to your "production" server for public access.
