Title: restoring backup files to sme7 taken from sme 6.0

currently using sme v 6.0 and want to go for sme v 7.0.. is it possible to restore backup files taken by sme v.6.0 to sme v7??? because it is upgraded version and based on centos so i have doubt..
i want to install fresh copy of sme7.0 and want to restore v6.0 's backup
will it run properly???

The question really is how to update 6.5rc1 to 7? And this on a working system.

Can ik be done by somebody that is not a unix guru?

I used the backup to desktop and tried to restore that file to a freshly installed 7.0b8. As expected this 7.0b8 server didn't work after that. I think it should work when you only backup the user files and no config settings.

i m using contrib add ons like squid properties and ip block internet, antivirus, qmail que management, and system monitor.
is it possible to restore only user accounts ????? i think so some addons wont work with sme 7 and some are built in like antivirus and spamassian..
if there is any expert please clear our doubts and give a chance to use sme7.. and also tip to use which version bec 7 is beta

Yes, it should "just work". If it doesn't for you, report details via the Bug Tracker - link is at left.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the built-in restore from tape or restore from desktop. If you are using some other backup or some other restore mechanism then I have no opinion as to whether it will work.

Note that restore from desktop currently has a data limit of something less than 4Gb.

Contribs shouldn't stop backup/restore from working. They are broken if they do. Please report the problems you saw with the attempted restore via the Bug Tracker. Please detail exactly what you did, and which parts of the server "didn't work".
