Title: Transfer User Accounts 6.0.1 > SMEv7beta8
Post by: AaronG on January 16, 2006, 03:04:56 AM
Hi Guys,

Can someone please outline the procedure for migrating user accounts from server to another.

I have two SME Servers... One running version 6.0.1 and another running the new version7beta.

I wish to easily transfer my accounts over. Is it possible to do this between DIFFERENT versions of SME?

I have tried searching the forums but I didn't manage to spot a thread which talks about this.

Regards
Aaron

Sorry guys,

is this just such a stupid question that you are all thinking that I should read the manual etc?

Is it possible? Do I just do a normal backup of the other server and then restore it to the new one???

Cheers
Aaron

Not a stupid question, but you also only posted less than 24 hours ago...

A 6.x backup should restore on 7.0pre1. If it doesn't, please report it to the bug tracker (there was an issue previously, but we believe it is fixed).

Will this overwrite the default settings such as IP Addresses, Hostnames etc which I have configured on the "NEW" server?

Yes. A restore is designed as a complete system restore. You could save away the configuration dbs and then perform a manual merge or replace after the restore.
