Title: Virtual Domain Emails SME7pre1
Post by: paul_NZ on January 19, 2006, 10:11:54 AM
I have used this HowTo http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs//rmitchell/smeserver/howto/virtual%20domain%20email%20aliases%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm
with my SME 6.0.1-01 server and it works 100% but how do I achieve the same under SME7pre1?

I have searched here to no avail (yet!).

Cheers

This feature is build-in in SME7, although there are some issues (look in bugtracker). After these bugs are squashed by the developers you can add a pseudonym trough the server-manger panel like: john.doe@virtualdomain.com and have it redirected to a user/group of your choise.

Regards,
jester.

Thanks Jester, I new there had to be a way.

Do you know if the bugs you refer to still exist in SME7pre1 release?
Title: Passing email through front sme7pre1 to another email server
Post by: pcdoc on January 20, 2006, 06:22:54 AM
Just testing something, and seem to be finding a problem.

I have a sme7pre1 server setup with abc.net.au as the primary domain. I have added a domain name for an internal mail server that has a valid internet address of xyz.com.au.

I have modified in hostnames and address the mail and www redirection for the ip to point to the intenal ip for the machine, as well as the mac address. The internal server (sme6.01-01) is set to DHCP and picks up the address assigned by the sme7pre1 server.

Internally, if i type www.xyz.com.au I go straight to the correct server, and mail will go there as well.

However, if I try to connect from out side in the wild wild web, my browser goes only to abc.net.au, and if I ping mail.xyz.com.au, I get the same email address as abc.net.au - which is what i expect.

Both the A and MX records are correct, as in abc.net.au and xyz.com.au records point to the same location.

Anyway, when email is sent from outside the local network, it does not get to xyz.com.au, and when requests are made via pop or smtp from outside clients for xyz.com.au, there is no mail waiting.....

any ideas ?¿?

If anything doesn't work correctly with sme7, please report via the bug tracker - Use the button/links located on the left or go to http://bugs.contribs.org/enter_bug.cgi - you may need to register. Please describe exactly what you have done and exactly what you see in response.  Thank you on behalf of the Devteam, your input is appreciated.

ummm, have a read of the post. it explains what i have done.

i have been using e-smith since 5.5. in 6.01 i couldn't get it to go through, but it was posted in the dev mail list a while ago that it would be possible with sme7.

so.... my question was.... is the way i am doing it correct, or am i missing something. I would like to be sure this is the correct way before I post a bug unneccesarily.

thanks for your comment tho.

pcdoc, I am just fielding, monitoring the forums for people disussing possible bugs in SME7 and directing them to the bugzilla @ http://wiki.contribs.org/bugzilla .   Your post appears to fall into the target category.  If not a bug , no harm done.  Thanks.
