Hi,
I've tried searching this forum and am afraid that I might be missing something.
I'm trying to install ndiswrapper on my SME server 6.01 (fresh install with a yum upgrade) and ndiswrapper needs building. So I've got to install kernel-source.
This doesn't seem to be available through yum, unless there is a reliable source that I can add to my sources list.
In the meantime, I've plunged into dependency hell, downloading various required bits - gcc, cpp, kernel-source.
But I think (from memory) kernel-source requires kernel-headers and I can't find a kernel-headers rpm anywhere.
I've probably got confused about what I'm looking for at some point. Are the headers part of another rpm? Or do I have to reinstall the kernel and choose to have source installed?
Anyway, thanks for any pointers

SME server is not a development workstation. It doesn't have any development tools at all. I'd recommend that you use a RedHat 7.3 workstation, updated from Fedora Legacy repositories.
In any case, I'd advise you just to use a wireless router for your wireless clients. If you really think you must install wireless hardware directly in your SME server, find hardware which has a native driver - don't use ndiswrapper.

Thanks for the response. Very helpful insight into the nature of SME.
I'm not using SME as the gateway, but thought I could pop it in the attic as it is just acting as a server, so that it's not in the way and wires seemed a pain.
Can anyone recommend any particular wireless cards that would work out of the box?
Thanks again

If you want to go 'remote' without lan cables look at powerline networking or try a wifi-lan bridge (these are generally marketed for games consoles).
Here's a link to some on NetGears site ....

Ok, I'd not really heard about these wifi-lan bridges.
Might be just the job - thanks
