hello peoples
I have a server running with php 4.4.1 and MYSQL 4.1.14 in an non profit education enviroment, all is fine except for one tiny little problem. The library department would like to use an open source library program which fetches the MARC records of books online (saves me typing in thousands of database entries :-)
However, the setup requires php with the YAZ module activated. I believe this would require me to recompile php with the correct switches, is this correct?
To tell you the truth I am a little scared to do so, after my last experience. Took me days to recover :-(
Could I beg you for some guidance, perhaps hold my hand through the darkness.... Maybe even tell me you love me when my world comes crashing down around me! Is there a nice easy to follow howto anywhere which would be a god send to me?

Have you looked at Koha http://www.koha.org. The latest version 2.2 will import/export MARC records.
There was some work being done by Micheal Dittmar on integrating Koha with SME. Not sure where he got up to. I know he had created a YAZ source RPM for SME.
Do a search of the dev-info mail list archive for Koha and YAZ.
