Title: raid sync after reboot
Post by: irian on January 20, 2006, 11:12:19 AM
SME 6.0.1
2 x 200Gb Samsung IDE-Drives

I installed it with raid1.
It was in the sync process (46%) when I had to reboot the server.
After the reboot it restarts the sync from the beginning.
It does not resume at the 46% where it was before I rebooted.

It happens more often (on other servers as well) that SME resyncs the Raid after a reboot.
Can someone explain me why that is?
Is that normal?
I would like to understand what is going on.

You must fully complete the resync process before shutting down the server or it wll start resyncing again at power up.

On sme 6
use cat /proc/mdstat
to examine the status

If the system has fully resync'd and starts resyncing after a shutdown, then that is a sign of incorrect shutdown procedure.
You should NOT turn off the power switch to shutdown a sme server.

Use the menu selections in server manager panel or do
shutdown -h now

the drives will sync much faster if they are optimized.  check the tweaking FAQ for more info.

That is what I thought, Ray, but I wasn't sure.
I usually use the halt command to shotdown the server.

I will look into the optizing the drives.
It took about 15 hrs to synchronise.

Thanks for the help.
Appreciate it.
