I have been having trouble restoring a SME server 6.0.1-01. If I build a fresh one with the same settings (in particular, the domain controller parts), will XP workstations recognize it as the same domain controller as the old server?
-
The problems I've been having migrating the server are that I installed fresh, did a restore from the old server, and then ran the SMEPlus script.
Would the correct order be to install fresh, run the SMEPlus script, and then a restore? The SMEPlus script run on the new server is a newer version than that of the old server.

You did it the right way. What problems are you having? Need a little more information.

After doing a restore and then running the SMEPlus script, many parts of the SMEPlus script fail. Most of the errors say something like "directory X doesn't exist." I don't have the log because I've already rebuilt the server fresh with SMEPlus, but it looks to me like after the restore, the server thinks there are folders there that really aren't because SMEPlus hasn't been installed yet.

Hi there,
Having the same problems.
Just for my interest; how did you backup/restore?
With a tapestreamer or desktop?
Regards,
Leo.

I did a backup to desktop.
They way I got it to finally work was to do a backup of the old machine, build the new one, run the SMEPlus script on the new one, restore the new one from the backup of the old one, and re-run the SMEPlus script on the new one.

Thanks junrau,
I think I already did that.
But I absolutely need a reliable backup everyday, and doing that to desktop every night (when the server is very busy) is no option for me.
Please have a look at http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=30516.0
Does this look familiar to you?
Regards,
Leo.

I don't do tape backups and I didn't get the same errors as that post, so I really can't help you there.

Hi Junrau,
Did you have to do any of this to get it working, and is your webmail working correctly?
Mail processing for certain users does not work after Spamassassin was installed
Explanation: This happens because the users are created BEFORE Spamassassin is installed. For updatinng the old users created before Spamassasin was installed, execute this command:
a)
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event user-modify
b) if you have lazy admin toolkit installed:
lat-procmail -c "*| enable| no| none| normal
