Title: SME Svr 5 (w/ Udp 3) Proxy Server No Workie!?!
Post by: Wei on December 16, 2001, 10:54:13 AM
Just upgraded (via a completely FRESH re-install) to SME Server v 5.0

Applied both Updates (i.e. 2-07 & 3-05) as well as the MP3 Jukebox blade

PROBLEM: Using the proxy name & port # given in e-smith-manager's
"Review configuration" response, my browser can't find SMEs Proxy server

Message on SME box's screen is something like this:

squid[2409] Squid Parent: child process 2410 exited with status 0

 (followed by:

a login(pam_unix)[2620]: session opened for user admin (uid=0)

after we logged in on pts/1 - via telnet)

 Then another one from squid:

squid[2581]: Squid Parent: child process 2582 exited with status 0

(No -external- proxy is required nor was any specified, during config'n)

 What's up, Doc's?  :-(

 TIA

PS With proxy server disabled (within Opera), browsing Internet &
the intranet provided by SME box -all- working OK.

PPS: Why do we get login & squid messages all over the console
screen of the SME box (text mode)?

'can't say I recall such messages from 4.1.1 or 4.1.2...
Title: More info (& a workaround)
Post by: ac on December 16, 2001, 11:00:33 AM
Here's a workaround that "solve" the problem (on one level):

Use 192.168.102.1:3218 in place of :3128

(Did I forget to mention that the domain name we told SME
does not really exist, i.e. outside of the SME box...?)

Perhaps we have (thereby) violated some assumption about
the definition status of the domain name (we don't -own- it,
so it can't be defined out on the Internet, in the usual way)

 Any ideas?

PS Our chosen -undefined- domain name is also in .biz.au
 Should that make a difference...?
