I have about 12 windows desktops using outlook in pop3 off an sme7 server. I changed server settings to put spam in the .junkmail directory last week and I notice today that the .junkmail folders are filling up. No wonder they were complaining about the spam :)
I figure there's no way for pop users to see that junkmail apart from using webmail or moving to imap so are there any management routines in place already to clean out that crap automagically or do I need to write one?

If you are using the latest version of SpamAssasin and the control panel from Knudsen there is an option to automatically delete spam after 10 days from the Junkmail folder. It works fine. ;-)

You can configure both POP & IMAP accounts for those users.
The POP will download mail from the Inbox on the server, the IMAP will allow them to view the junkmail folder. Use the Spam filter panel to auto delete the junkmail after 20 days as well.

Ray,
I'm using SME 7 pre1, I don't see that delete option.
I guess adding an imap account is the best option.
I did get hylafax going last night so there's a win :-D

Sorry Charlie I won't be doing that. I'll just side step the issue. That site is slower than grass growing for me.
