Title: need advise: is it safe to add extra hd on SME7?!
Post by: jester on February 07, 2006, 04:04:03 PM
I had sme 6.0.1 installed on an single IDE disk and had a set of disks mirrored on a Promise sata raid-card for the bulk archive. I've disconnected the mirror drives and done a clean install of SME7pre1 on the single IDE disk.

Now i've read a few posts on problems with SME7 default choice of setting up a single disk as an mirror. Will SME take over an other harddisk, if added, and try to rebuild destroying the data on that extra disk?!

I want to add my sata-mirror again BUT i want to be sure it is safe 'cause i dont want to lose the data on those disks!

Can someone give me advise?!

regards,
jester.

A fresh install of SME Server PRE1 will take over ALL disks when they are present during initial install. So, leave the mirror set out and install SME Server on a single disk (it will do it's default mirror thing)

After initial install, add the raid card and mirror-set, and add the raid to fstab as per the FAQ 'adding a second harddisk'. You should be perfectly ok.
