Title: Server backup without access to server-manager?
Post by: calisun on February 08, 2006, 11:06:41 PM
I have a remote office where I want them to be able to do weekly backup to desktop and later they will burn DVD of the backup.
My question is, is there a way for them to do a backup to desktop without them having an access to server-manager?

What I did for some of my clients was install a DVD-RW in their server, and have a cron job that would backup to DVD every night. All the client needs to do is change discs every day.

If you need any help doing something like that, let me know. Implementation will depend on the version of SME you're using. I just had a pretty basic script that made an iso of /home and burnt to a disc.
