Title: Disk Mirroring
Post by: laurie_lewis on February 17, 2006, 02:50:10 AM
Hi all,

I am looking at building a new server with a mini itx board.  It only has one ide channel.  Can I still mirror two hard drives in software from a new install or do I need to have the drives on seperate ide channels.

Ta

raid is best run a separate IDE's, you can get data errors on the same ide.

Mirroring on the same controller may cause performance problems, particularly with older drives. It is also less robust as the controller is a single point of failure. However, it should work fine on modern controllers and drives.

Thanks gentlemens,

I think I will give it a shot.  Only hosting a small home network and a couple of small websites so will see how it goes.

I have been running a Epia 500 board with an additional Promise contoller, Ultra 100 TX2, they can be found cheap and work well from version 6
