Title: XP File/Folder copying to ibay permission problem
Post by: byte on February 17, 2006, 12:50:11 PM
I have this problem where a user copies files/folders from his XP machine to an ibay on the server, but when another user try's to view the copied files from another machine they dont see them. I then have to go and change the permissions for them to view the copied data

I did a search but couldn't find anything, has anyone had this issue before?

TIA

NT permissions problems, don't ever recall anyone mentioning anything like this before, but it is more of a Windows rather than SME issue (probably).

Does the user have some "strange ownership" of the directories/files?

Are other users having similar problems or is this just one user?  If just one user how do permission look compared to the machines which work ok?

I cannot immediatly think of what is wrong but will have a play.

Is the XP machine a domain member or simple workgroup?

Thanks for replying Dave...

It's simply a workgroup, I would also say it's a windows problem but thought maybe one would have come across this problem before using SME.

Bascially I have a ibay which has a group to allow one person RW access and everyone else as R access, once the RW access person uploads from his files he created on his windows XP  pro machine to the server no-one else can see them, the RW access person then has to re-create the folder ON the server and cut & paste there files...

I shall try this on another setup and see what that give's me
