Where can I find the proper httpd.conf file to make changes to the Apache server? When I open the httpd.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf it says:
"DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE! It is updated automatically by the
# SME Server software. Instead, modify the source template in
# an /etc/e-smith/templates-custom directory."
When I go to the templates-custom directory there is no httpd.conf file.
Thanks.

Would I be correct in saying to look in here?
/etc/e-smith/templates/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
But hen you would have to expand the template etc.
Then restart httpd
or if you want to add your personal touch then do
mkdir /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf ... if it doesn't exist ... then create the desired file and then expand the template.
Check before you do this but I think it's ... /sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf ... to expand the template.
You may have to search on how to do that ... I can't remember.
Any more then that someone with more knowledge will have to help.
