Title: Recommended connection for SATA RAID
Post by: ntblade on February 28, 2006, 03:35:30 PM
Hi everyone,
I've set up a Dell SC430, 512MB RAM with two SATA drives using the contribs auto RAID setup.  I'm wondering though, which is the best physical connection?
The Motherboard has 4 SATA connectors numbered 0, 1, 2, 3 and I have my drives connected to 0 and 1.
Is this the best connection scheme or should I use 0 and 2 say?
I'm assuming there's no master / slave type of arrangment with SATA.

Many thanks
Norrie

Norrie,

I would leave them the way DELL connected them.  0,1.   Right?

Thanks for the reply.
I didn't buy the server with the two drives.  I installed them myself.

Oh... use 0,1

I have built a few of those, but I don't have one in the office at the moment.  They make great remote servers.
