Title: OSX SME Files Keep Changing Names
Post by: vickviking on March 01, 2006, 07:04:15 AM
Can anyone explain to me in plain english why my OSX machines connecting to first my 6.01 then my 7pre3 server have problem accessing files from the I-bays?

The files mysteriously change names.  Disconnecting the reconnecting to the I-bay temporarily fixes the problem.

I have tried to find answers in the forums but don't understand the difference betweem Appletalk, Nettalk and SMB.  And if at all possible I dont really want to start installing additional RPMs to fix this if it can be done some otherway.

I thought upgrading from 6.01 to 7Pre3 would fix the problem but it did not.

There must be others out there who have fixed this and I guess it is pretty simple because there does not seem to be too much about it in these forums.  So, what's the simple answer I am not getting?

Many thanks

As has been requested innumerable times, in many places, please report all problems you encounter viaz the Bug Tracker.

Ok, I have raised a bug as suggested.  This can be found at: -

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=942

But if you want a quick fix then forget about using SMB to connect to the I-bays.  You will need to use AFP e.g.

afp://my-server

Then connect to the I-bay.

Good luck
