Title: This may be a stupid question
Post by: Rhuwyn on March 03, 2006, 05:57:35 PM
I am a total linux noob. But I am an experianced Windows Admin. That being said I always keep OS and Programs on one drive and data on another. How would I do this with SME Server. I know that the second hard drive has to be mounted but how do i do this and how do I mount make an ibay point to it.

Thanks in Advance

I've just done a search to try and find a howto, this has been covered many times, however I cannot find anything specifically relating to SME7, this may be slightly different to earlier versions due to the built in raid on v7.

I would hate to point you at an howto for v6 only for it not to be correct for v7.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give the relevent details.

The how-to for adding a second hard drive is still good for SME 7.
The important step is to add a second drive AFTER SME7 is fully installed, otherwise it will try use it in the RAID configuration during installation.

Told you someone would be along to clarify the situation.

Here is the Howto I was thinking of:

Just remember that IF you have to reinstall SME, you disconnect the additional drive(s) before you do the install or SME will use all available drives and eat your data.

Sure you realise this, but you can never be to careful, especially if the server has been running for sometime and suddenly needs rebuilding.
