Title: samba printer for redhat 7.1
Post by: Ted Hobson on January 03, 2002, 01:32:20 AM
On my home network I have a win2k machine and a redhat 7.1 machine both attached to a SME 5 server. I want to share my HP deskjet 670c printer between these two machines. So far I've installed the printer on the SME box and set it up as a network printer on the win2k machine. Everything is peachy keen. Now I'm trying to use printconf-gui to set up a samba share printer for the rh machine. I'm pretty sure all the the variables are set properly in printconf but when I go to print a test page I get "Get_local_host: 'localhost' IP address not available!"

I don't know if this was a good idea but I also issued the command "hostname pc-00066" and "domainname tedhobson.net" because thats the hostname that SME 5 assigns it and thats the domainname of the SME box.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Ted.

Hi,

I've had a lot of trouble setting up printers in Red Hat 7.1, In the end I used Webmin to setup printers, and it worked first time! www.webmin.com/webmin

Kind regards,

Rob.
