Title: Computers No longer able to join domain
Post by: staverts on March 14, 2006, 12:43:51 AM
I have a stock install of SME 7.0 pre4.  It was set up as a domain controller with login scripts working, and everyone was able to join the domain.   No changes or new packages have installed, and the server has been sitting on the rack doing a great job....until recently.  Recently, for reasons unknown to me, everyone has lost thew ability to join the domain, it cannot see or resolve to the SME domain controller anymore...any ideas?  Is ther a way to re-generate the smb.conf file or tmeplate, so that it is back at the default settings?  This way maybe I can re-do my domain controller settings through the web-interface.  Any insight in to why this would happen would be great.

Thanks,

Matt Stavert

As you say nothing has changed on this install of SME7, suddenly your clients are unable to connect to the domain I sugest that your first and best point of call is logging a bug in the Bug Tracker.

The developers are the best people to suggest a solution to your immediate problem and if this is a bug fix it.

What other info do you have - is networking OK, can you ping the server. The SME logs are a good source of info. Have you applied any Windows patches, is the windows firewall blocking it ? Just a few quick thoughts....

configuration files get automatically rebuild from templates when you do a system update.  In server-manager go to Configuration->Software installer, and hit install updates. Make sure to hit "reconfigure" when the updates are done.

As far as it breaking in the first place, please create a bug report as this could be a serious problem.

I can confirm this. I have the same problem, unable to add computers to the domain. Fresh install of both pre4 or rc1.

try joining your computer just by domain name without suffix. If your FQDN is "mydomain.domain.net", just use the "mydomain" part. This worked for me.

Why have you not reported your problem via the Bug Tracker?

I will report it to the buglist
I installed the available updates under "software install" and performed a reconfigure reboot. I was able to add clients to the domain but unable to log in I get the A device attached to the system is not functioning error message.
