Title: My Server is blocking me from my own domain / website???
Post by: hairytea on March 14, 2006, 02:07:50 PM
I had a problem with Qmhandle..i.e. i was getting a very slow connection due to mail queing up in the server and not being handled correctly.

long story short..i was told to use putty to log into server as root etc etc and delete the massive queue of emails.

Since i have done this none of the PC's on this network can connect to our own website. The website was made in a rush by me and now needs updating to tidy up and make work correctly etc.

on each machine we get the error '(113) No route to host' tried pinging my address and just times out with 100% loss! our domain is http://www.cross-channel.com and if you try yourself access is ok from any other network / internet connection other than mine now.  grrrr

any one ever experienced this or know a fix for this problem?

we have spoken to our isp and they wre very helpful, but after many tests they concluded our server is blocking us.

All other websites domains etc work perfectly fine..it is just our own we cannot connect to???

Also if any help to you we can connect via FTP to the site / Domain!

sounds like you really messed up some config files. You probably want to consider a rebuild of the server. I suggest upgrading to SME7.

nothing has been changed whatsoever in the server and has worked up until today....the only thing done to the server was use putty to log in and delete the large mail queue.

any other suggestions welcome...

many thanks

if you didn't stop the queue before you did that, you may have messed it up.

Since no one else is experiencing this (or posting), your going to be on your own. Which means your config files got messed up one way or another.

#Try:
signal-event post-upgrade
#then
signal-event reboot

If that doesn't work, you can either spend hours trying to figure it out or spend 30 minutes to get another box & test a new install.

Thanks everyone for your efforts.......

You are probably right i may of deleted the queue once without disabling first (well i had to show an inexperienced staff member how to do it so probably he dont it).

Other than my server does anyone know of any other issues that may have caused this other than the server or do i take it the server is blocking ,e and not my ISP for example??

Thanks again

Andrew

Can anyone please let me know if the following is correct:-

i.e. my domain 'cross-channel.com' should it be set to local?

Is this why i can't connect to my domain because it is trying to find it locally rather than from the WWW?

OK.

Phoned ISP again and after several 'ipconfig /all' tests etc. It turns out that my server is pointing me to an incorrect DNS Server address!

My ISP changed their DNS adresses without telling anyone?!?!? And the date they gave for when this happened coincides with the date that we could no longer accress our own domain!

Anyway long story short we need to change the DNS address that the server is pointing to...but can we find that option anywhere...NO.

Am connected via web browser and under 'review configuration' it shows DNS address as 192.168.1.1 which is the Servers address...eaaaarrrggghh WTF WTF WTF.

How do i change the server over to direct DNS queries to a different address.

BTW. I Changed the settings on local machine to point to DNS address given by ISP. Press repair connection so disconnects and reconnects...connects ok and can ping my domain now (www.cross-channel.com) and the correct IP address of the domain now being returned with 100% success. Then after 1 minute connected i get limited or no connectivity...take settings off local machine and connect ok!

Conclusion.

I HAVE TO UNDOUBTIDLY WITHOUT QUESTION HAVE TO CHANGE THE DNS ADDRESSES ON THE SERVER...according to my ISP anyway...HOW DO YOU DO THIS????

please help before i go mad!

Many thanks

Andrew
