Title: Totally Stumped on a probable DNS glitch
Post by: garywowen on March 20, 2006, 04:38:36 PM
I have SME6 in server gateway mode. It serves a wirless lan on an industrial park. One of my clients cannot access a specific website. Everything else is fine but for some reason my gateway just times out when the address is entered. If I connect to another server on my network it works. I'm not a linux guru so I've no idea what's going on - any ideas?

Can you ping the site when you're behind the SME? Could be related to DNS, have you applied the upgrades?

The SME is fully updated via Yum and still the problem. I cannot ping the site from SME (it resolves its IP but doesn't get back a response), however I also tried to ping it on my network where the website IS visible and doesn't get a response either - so their router must have ping responses disabled.

1- Do a
Code: [Select]
rpm -q e-smith-tinydns and report back
2- Make sure this site is not being served on a unusual port (Squid only caches specific ports)

Lookes like a problem I saw a while ago.
Primary machine could acces a specific external site, but secondary could not.
Differance was the proxy setting, my primary machine wasn't unsing SME as proxy.
After setting the secondary machine to a proxy less setup all workes oké.
Title: Thanks - sorted

Thanks for the replies. I ran reconfig and set DNS to my ISP's and it worked - I wonder if anyone else has problems with http://www.vauxhall.co.uk through SME using its own DNS?
