Title: Changing admin passwords
Post by: phowardcom on March 28, 2006, 11:11:46 AM
Hi all,

I have inherited 3 SME servers that I now have to look after and the default admin/root password is not as strong as I would like it.

I know I can change the admin password in the server-manager area but from reading through the forums here it seems that the admin and root passwords are set the same on install but are actually seperate accounts.

If I change the Admin password do i need to then SSH to the server and change the Root password to the same password?

Also are there any problems with changing the admin/root password? Do any services/daemons rely on the password being the same as it was when the install took place?

many thanks.

Paul

Changing the admin password in server manager will change both root & admin pw's.

It is safe to change the password any time you want and as often as you want, nothing is reliant upon the original pw not being changed.
