Hi all
My SME is working perfectly
I have a question about my domain and webmail
What is logical, or typical for webmail address do you get another domain for this, or do you simply use you current domain such as www.domain.com/webmail
Or do I need another domain to point to the webmail address etc.??
Please advise
Thanks

Agent,
What is logical for one situation makes no sense for another situation. Assuming you are a normal organization and you just want you users to have access to their mail via the web, then can be expected to use
https://www.domain.com/webmail
I'm not really sure why you would need a special domain for email... unless you are working at being an ISP.

Thanks for the reply
Well, to try and answer I guess my questions is more searching for advise on my email service.
I'm thinking of simply using as a typical webmail email service and was not sure if I needed to do anything special to access the webmail or to simply use the domain/webmail
my domain is www.foolishlys.com and it's working, but www.foolishlys.com/webmail does not get a login screen. It appears to simply point to the webpage
For some reason I do get webmail when login from local net at: www.foolishlys.com/webmail. I can also use webmail when using my address at: https://70.91.72.77/webmail which will work anyplace as well
What would cause the www.foolishlys.com/webmail to go to the webpage instead of the login screen ?
Any advise on this ?

Check your settings.... I'm guessing you don't have it available to the pubic/Internet.

Hi and thanks for the reply
It is configured for public internet, thats why I'm confused
Since everyone on the net can access via my static ip address/webmail
But not with my domain name/webmail
domain name/webmail brings them to the webpage, instead of webmail login screen.
Thats the only reason I was considering another domain for this cause I thought perhaps you need one to point to the proper address/port, but appearantly it's just not pointing to webmail for somereason, perhaps the DNS host of my domain might have to make a change to add a MX record for this or something?
Are there typically any changes to make with the DNS server MX records or any other changes to make for pointing to /webmail or does this typically happend automatically once your domain is setup correctly.
Does the https create any problems with domain/webmail ?
Thanks for any help on this subject, I do appreciate your answers

I don't think external DNS is resolving where you think it is.
https://www.foolishlys.com/webmail/
resolves to:
https://216.39.58.67/webmail/
and I get a Yahoo! error message. I think you need to adjust your external DNS. Email me if you need to jay@hitechsavvy.com

Thanks
I'm not sure what part of the DNS to change
All I've really done with DNS so far is register my domain and setup domain fowarding to point to my static IP address
Yahoo defaults remain the same and automatically setup A record, and Cname when I did the fowarding
I'm not sure what you mean by external DNS ? is this settings I need to change in the SME box or the Yahoo DNS records etc.
I'm getting lost on DNS
Please advise
Thanks

You need an A record pointing your domain to the SME. This needs to be available to the outside world

Here is what was setup in the yahoo DNS and small business control panel
_____________________
Forward foolishlys.com
www.foolishlys.com
70..??.?? (my ip address)
Masked Forward
then this:
_____________________
Type: Source: Destination:
A Record foolishlys.com
Redirected to another web page
Yahoo! IP Address
A Record www.foolishlys.com
Redirected to another web page Yahoo! IP Address
CNAME Record *.foolishlys.com Yahoo! Hostname
CNAME Record mail.foolishlys.com Yahoo! Hostname
__________________________________
The the MX record stuff below:
Mail Server Host Name: Priority:
Yahoo! Mail Server 20
Yahoo! Mail Server 30
___________________________________
It seem that it should be working, but perhaps another A record and forget the domain forwarding ?
Here is what I've recently added for DNS A recorder
Source- www.foolishlys.com
destination (my static ip)
Do I need to add a Cname to match this record ?
Perhaps I don't need to foward if I add the correct A record ?
Does this A record that I've added seem correct ?
Thanks
