Can someone help me.
No matter what I do, I can't connect to the E-smith server from
the outside world. Whether FTP, or HTTP.
I am using the IP address that is given to me with ifconfig.
Facts:
I am using Cable modem.
FTP and all access is set to public.

Paul,
I had a similar issue when testing a server to go on a new ADSL connection, when it was still connected via modem to my dial-up provider.
Turns out said provider is blocking Port 80 (and in my case email). FTP worked for me, but this is still my guess as to what may be wrong for you.
cheers

Paul and phil,
I had the same problem using my tweaked alcatel adsl modem. The modem didn't know where to send the incomming connections to. In my modem there was a setting to direct incomming connections to a default server. That was the trick for me.
Maybe you have a simular problem?

Richard
