Title: adding nic, vmware
Post by: bas on April 08, 2006, 11:07:58 PM
I've setup an sme7rc1 running VMware-server-e.x.p-22088.
It's hosting 3 virtual machines without any problems. But all four machines are using the same nic.

I'm sure it's possible to add one or more nics so the virtual machines have their own nic.

Does anybody have any ideas how?

Yes, add the NICs to the machine then allocate each as desired under the Virtual Networking on the HOST. Then edit your VM to chose the new Network Connection (look under the Custom to choose the specific NIC). Depending on how they are bring used you may also wish to adjust host o/s NIC protocols.

I have several vmware servers with 3 or more NICs where the NICs are internal and intenet facing to allow VM-ing SME gateway and proxy hosts. It all works great. Just be sure to test and read the docs about the Virtual Networking.
