Title: Microsoft word and excel file issues
Post by: dilligaf on April 09, 2006, 04:46:46 PM
Having transferred a bunch of 2003 Word files from a windows pc to an SME 6.01 server share.
The share is mapped as a drive letter.
Whenever a word or excel file is opened changed etc, a message says about the file needing saved to a different file name, or overwrite changes.
Anyone else have this, and a fix?

First step is to make sure that you have write rights for the files which are in your share.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: You have the right rights to write, Right?

Hi,
Yes we have permissions.
Microsoft say it is latency as per this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=324491
Yet I have it on several SME Servers at various locations.
All OS, and Office are patched.

Hello,
this topic was discussed here: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=28140.0. I was just dealing with this problem on the SME 7.1 and adding
Veto oplock files = /*.xls/*.XLS/
into smb.conf (or rather to the template) solved it.
