Title: SME websites
Post by: Agent86 on April 15, 2006, 12:41:46 AM
Hi all

Is there a place or section of the forum where people can show off their SME hosted websites?

If not it would be nice to have a page with nothing but webaddresses to SME hosted websites for people to look at or review etc.

Where is nothing SME specific in the way the websites are hosted/created.
Webserving portion of SME is just a standard LAMP platform (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) and allowed for hosting anything from basic HTML to the most popular CMS/Portals.
You will not be able to tell from the webpage looks that its a SME server or any other (Apache based) web server.

Thanks for the reply,

I know this, however I guess it would be a setup for spammers etc.

And I know you can't tell visually if it's being hosted on SME, but it would be nice to have a page with only links to showcase a few SME host webpages.

Just to express to those who do not know, or those who wondered about hosting their own website that it can work and here are some of the resulting pages etc.

Thanks again for the reply, I also believe that this would be abused, unless someone monitored this in a way that you submit the page review the page to see some links or something in the code that points to an e-smith ibay or something, then post the link, otherwise it would probably just get abused like any other free space for links out there

Anyhow good point.

In this vein how about a logo that shows that the page is hosted on an SME server and have it link back to contribs. This will help with market penetration and get the name out there in the peoples faces.

Sure it would, but thats what I mean, when they go to the contrib.org pages, they could also review other websites that are hosted with SME and perhaps see something that is similar to what they would like to do.

Or something like that, perhaps I'll work on one of these myself and post the link

This is up to sole discretion of proud owners of SME hosted websites to put links, logos, credits and other web design elements on their sites. Its not required nor prohibited.
